The Top Ten Most Expensive Skin Creams.

DateMay 23, 2007 | written by AuthorTeri Cosenzi, Beauty Editor | Comment6 Comments | Share ArticleShare This

Over at Aging Fabulous, I wrote about about some Anti-Aging Beauty Creams that are available, but at what cost? Is expensive always better?

kb-strivectin_tube.jpgMy favorite skin cream as of late is StriVectin-SD, which sells for $135 for a 6 oz. tube. This cream is so rich that I need no more than a dime size amount to cover my entire face, neck, and chest. So, I really don't think of it as that expensive, as I can see this lasting so long.

I have compiled a list of the Top Ten Most Expensive Skin Creams:

Re Vive Peau Magnifique $1500.00
Natura Bisse Inhibit Tensolift $675.00
La Prairie Pure Gold Cellular Radiance Concentrate $525.00
Orlane Hypnotherapy $490.00
Sisley Paris Sisleya Elixir $435.00
Amore Pacific Time Response Skin Renewal Cream $400.00
Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale $360.00
Chantecaille Biodynamic Lifting Cream $295.00
Beauty by Clinica Ivo PitanguyPrevious Rebalancing Formula $275.00
N.V. Perricone, M.D. Neuropeptide Facial Contour $240.00

How much would you spend on a skin care cream?

I used to work for over 20 years for a very well respected company selling breast implants, chemical peels, etc. to plastic surgeons. We would talk all the time about the "latest and greatest" products the big retailers were trying to sell the innocent public. I am very familiar with the field of "anti-aging from spending so much time learning and testing these products with the doctors so DON'T BELIVE 99% of the claims these companies make.
I use retin-a at night, cetaphil cleanser in the morning, a good vitamin c topical, sunscreen and botox (okay, so I am a little vain and in my late 40's!) Throw in monthly facials and a medium-strength peel once a year. That is my regiment and pretty similar to the doctor's wives, too!
Keep in mind that the "active" (expensive) ingredients in those creams have too large of molecules to effectively penetrate through the dermis of the skin, therefore making them completely useless. Don't believe the salesgirls at the counter. They get paid commission to sell you that stuff. SkinMedica, Skinceuticals (especially their vitamin c) are all fine products that actually work and are worth the money at a fraction of the cost. You can find them on EBay at great deals. Don't buy them at your dermatologist's office, as he will mark them up 100%.
That's my Two Cents.

Didn't like my comment the other day on how these expensive skin creams aren't worth it?
You must be sponsored by them.
I read your blog every day and used to have great respect for your commentary. I would love to get an email from you as to why you didn't include MY comments from the other day on why I don't believe in these ridiculously expensive cremes and could even give you phone numbers of very highly esteemed dermatologists and plastic surgeons who would agree with me.
I will think twice before reading your blog again.

Elaine, I wrote this post out of pure amazement and curiosity as to who would actually spend that type of money on a cream. I never used them, nor did I endorse any of them.

As far as comments go, I have not been able to publish ANY of the comments in my system since the 21st, until now.

A nice e-mail asking me why would have been more appropriate, don't you think?

Those are crazy prices...I would never pay that much for skin cream. Now I do have young skin, but all I use is (for my face) baby oil and (for my body) whatever cheap-o lotion is in the bathroom.
I was interested to see that you did not include La Mer on your list.
I just discovered your blog and I will be coming back soon, keep up the good work! :-)

Oh my lord! The prices of the creams are just climing higher and higher, aren't they?

By the way, love your blog! Can we exchange links? I've add yours on mine, http://ma-petite-chou.blogspot.com. Cheers!!

The news channels around here are always running stories about how we do not need to spend the big bucks on skin care products - they are basically all the same. (Heck, once they even said we could use Crisco for a moisturizer. Wonder how many bugs I would have on my face in the morning? YUCK!) Anyhow, the #1 product we need to worry about is sun protection - spend your money there.

Of course, if you can afford it and it makes you feel better about yourself, I say go for it! Any self-esteem booster is fine by me.
