CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless Foundation: Opening Instructions and Usage Tips.

I don't think I have ever received as many e-mails as I have before now, than with the questions I have been receiving about Simply Ageless, the new foundation from CoverGirl and Olay. I told you about this foundation innovation just before the Holidays and it seems as though many of you have purchased and have questions. The number one question I get is, "How do I open this?". So I went to CoverGirl and have the information for you right here. 

I have discovered not only how to open the compact itself, but found some great tips on how to use this as well.

First, to open the product. There are two parts to the compact. The top part, which contains the actual foundation, and the bottom part that contains the sponge. The bottom simply flips open to obtain the sponge, and lets you keep it there when not in use. To open the top part, you need to twist the large clear lid off of the jar. It only takes one turn and it will open. The lid might be on tight, but it will definitely open with not too much effort. Remember, righty-tighty, lefty-loosey: Turn it to the left to open, to the right to close.

To apply the foundation, simply smooth the sponge across the compact to blend the products together and apply. The white color will never ever change the color of the foundation. It is just the special process by which the products were made to work in conjunction with each other. If you want to see it in action, check out this video with CoverGirl Makeup Artist Molly Stern, as she uses a wedge sponge to apply it to a model. To get a softer more sheer finish, dampen the sponge with water before applying.

Still can't open the #$%*# thing....very poor construction with NO instructions....hopefully someday it will magically open because I'd like to use it...twist and twist--feels like it's glued shut...

I would take it back to where you purchased it and ask for another. I am sure that once you explain that you could not open the compact, they will gladly exchange it for another one.

I banged it on the table a couple of times and it opened easily, but I could NOT open it otherwise, and I am not weak. Very aggravating and stupid on CG's part to make it so difficult. I doubt most people would think to google CG-Simply Ageless-open. If I'd had to return it, I wouldn't have come home with another CG product.

I am going to get in touch with my friends at CoverGirl and show them this list. I was skeptical until now, but as I picked up two of these tonight and I had an awful time opening one of them, I realize that this really is a design flaw. I had to actually bang it on the floor, very lightly, but I still had to. It seemed like it was almost air-sealed. The second compact did open with ease though.

Ok glad i"m not the only one who can't open this thing. i can see the threads but no luck. I'm surprised that covergirl wouldn't test market this enough to know this design sucks.

Tip to others, press down as you turn. I finally got mine open after reading people were banging on it. Sort of like a medicine bottle you have to press down as you turn.

Glad you are all getting it open. Now, I think I will review the actual foundation and hopefully you will all follow up with comments on how you liked it, applied it, and finally got the darn thing to open!

This was the MOST irrititating thing I've bought in a very long time.........why didn't they think this through a little better? After struggling last night and again this morning, I finally was able to open it after reading the tip from Pam that said to push down as you're twisting. Thank you, Pam, but CG certainly messed up on this one.

Finally got mine open today as well. This is the worst packaging I think I have ever seen. Thanks for the tips. You do have to turn it to the right to open though, as with any "jar" kind of thing.

Cover Girl did a horrible job with the packaging, there is NO WAY you should have to do a internet search on how to open something! I did get it open and now am looking forward to trying it!

Can't believe I had to google to find out how to open this container! Even more amazing, the answer is out there. I figured the top twisted off, however it was on so tight that I practically broke a nail struggling with it. Finally got it open, hope the product is worth the struggle. Terrible design on this product packaging...

Thanks for the info. I just bought it could not open it and googled the item. WAHLA!!! Your address was first. I was getting really frustrated and feeling dumb. Now I know that Cover Girl is the dumb one. Your directions worked. Thanks!

Glad to help everyone! I do think a redesign is in order, a double flip top would be great, but I bet that for the Olay product to work correctly, it probably needs to be air tight, and sealed the way it is. I am not an expert, but I am just guessing.

I will not ever buy this product again. Why should I when I can't even open it to know if I even like it or not. When I Googled It just for a joke, I couldn't believe that it was really telling people how to open it. So I read it, and it STILL WONT OPEN. $13.00 is too much to pay when you can't even get to the product to see if you even like ot or not. I'm really getting tired of trying. It is about to go in the garbage. A very unsatisfied customer.

Wow! I finally got mine open last night after having to ask my husband to help (it pained me to do this as I am no weakling!) He thought it was pretty funny watching me struggle just trying to figure it out before I even started trying to twist. I KNEW there would be info out there on this problem because it was just so difficult. Ridiculous that this is an issue with a product that cost me $15.99. At least once it's open, it's doesn't seem to be a problem again. As for the actual make-up, so far I LOVE it.

I finally got it open by banging on the counter. Will give it a try but unless I look 10 years younger wearing it I won't replace it unless the container is updated. If I look 10 years younger I will continue to struggle with it.

Thank god I was not the only one....I got mine at Target and knew no one there would be of any help to open it! I just happened to think to google first!....I had already tried to twist it off and was afraid to try too hard because it might break. After reading here though, I got it open on my first try.

This makeup better be fantastic after trying for a half an hour to open it. I may never know at this rate. I would love to talk to the numbo who came up with this compact.I will give this to my son to open when he gets home. Mayvbe he can do it. Very unhappy consumer!!!!

Thanks for the solution, but I am just going to take it back to the store--you shouldn't have to work this hard to put on makeup. I just can't believe anyone would sell something this badly packaged! Although...maybe it counts as my resistance workout for the day?
