CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless Foundation: Opening Instructions and Usage Tips.

I don't think I have ever received as many e-mails as I have before now, than with the questions I have been receiving about Simply Ageless, the new foundation from CoverGirl and Olay. I told you about this foundation innovation just before the Holidays and it seems as though many of you have purchased and have questions. The number one question I get is, "How do I open this?". So I went to CoverGirl and have the information for you right here. 

I have discovered not only how to open the compact itself, but found some great tips on how to use this as well.

First, to open the product. There are two parts to the compact. The top part, which contains the actual foundation, and the bottom part that contains the sponge. The bottom simply flips open to obtain the sponge, and lets you keep it there when not in use. To open the top part, you need to twist the large clear lid off of the jar. It only takes one turn and it will open. The lid might be on tight, but it will definitely open with not too much effort. Remember, righty-tighty, lefty-loosey: Turn it to the left to open, to the right to close.

To apply the foundation, simply smooth the sponge across the compact to blend the products together and apply. The white color will never ever change the color of the foundation. It is just the special process by which the products were made to work in conjunction with each other. If you want to see it in action, check out this video with CoverGirl Makeup Artist Molly Stern, as she uses a wedge sponge to apply it to a model. To get a softer more sheer finish, dampen the sponge with water before applying.

Completly frustrating product.

Banging it on a table a few times made it twist off.

COVER GIRL needs to start saything this $#@%*& on the commercials about how to open it!!

That will never happen. Its not as specail as I had heard it was when I used it. Its cakey.

I also couldn't figure out how to open this. I tried to open after many tries and the top wouldn't budge. Thank goodness my 20 year old son was here to open it for me.

Been struggling with opening; then opened the sponge container and tried again...it opened right up

A HAMMER worked. I used it on the side and thank God it did not break or crack the cover. I tried everything else first including the press down as I turned. Tried to pry it open, myself and my husband both tried to twist it off (to the left). Used a jar opener to the left.. nothing!!!. Considered returning it until I saw so many others had the same problem, decided not to drive 35 miles again for nothing.

I just got it open and I sincerely hope all the ridiculous work I had to go through just to get it open was worth it!!!

I have had disappointments in products before but this really tops them all

is this still a PROBLEM?? Did the manufacturer not get the messages?

I couldn't get the foundation open and went online for the instructions and finally after alot of cursing I got it open. Why did cg make this so complicated? If I have had ti take it back, I would never buy any thing else CG makes.. So frustrating especially if I had been in a hurry to put on makeup..

Thanks god for this website. It sat in my makeup drawer for weeks because I couldn't open the darn thing. No instructions, I took a knife to it too trying to open it. Hard to believe covergirl marketing people haven't seen sites like these and took back to cover girl for a design change. Maybe we ought to Call Ellen Degeneres???

Before you try to turn the lid to the LEFT make sure you have removed the little sticker on the side. I had trouble too before discovering the little sticker, but once removed it opened right up with little pressure.

I guess this is the worst packaging I have ever seen---no instructions and I still can't open the container. I am not very strong, so I asked my friends to open the container. They were unable to do so also. The container is NOW in the trash. I will never buy another Covergirl product again.

Think they need to change packageing.
I really was stretching when I googled how to open this product but low and behold an answer was there. that in itself is funny. I have arthitis in my hands and this is very difficult to manage at least for the first time.

I save lives for a living and I can't get this junk opened. Thought I was smart .Bought the blush and the fondation for tonight. Not only can't get it opened but extremely frustrated and wrecked the nails. Cover Girl owes me a manicure. And Ellen, I think I remember a segment on your show laughing how people couldn't get into your claim to fame make up. Well the joke is on us . Happy trails to the bank.

I came here after googling "how to open covergirl simply ageless." I twisted and twisted and cursed a little at the phrase "it will definitely open with not too much effort" but I finally got it open after banging it on the table a couple times and then twisting. Oy. You'd think they'd have fixed this by now when I see the age of this post.

This packaging is RIDICULOUS. I can't believe I had to go online in one last attempt to figure out how to open a makeup compact. Is Cover Girl getting their jollies out of making so many women feel inept? Not even in a container that has instructions--we're just supposed to magically know? Stupid, stupid, stupid--and I also can't believe they haven't even listened to all of the women who have posted something here and changed it!! Apparently they don't care much about the very people they make a living off of!!

thank you so much for the opening instructions. I was going to return it to the store. I pried, poked, twisted, hammered and swore a lot. Never had so much trouble opening a product. They could have provided instructions (you think?) Now I can try it. After all this trouble, hope it is worth it.

I would like to know what the contents of this makeup happen to be? Is there mercury or petroleum products in this product? Is there "wax" or bees wax or whale oil? I am using it and like the results, but am taking Anatomy and Physiology and would like to know the contents of what I am putting on my face and how it is diffusing into my skin and with what chemical compounds?

Wow, I am so glad this post was here. I spent 10 minutes trying to open it. Found this post, banged it, pushed down, but that was not working. Finally a last ditch attempt yielded an open product. It doesn't contain near as much product as it looks. And be sure and go a bit darker than you normally would because the moisturer seems to tone down the color. However, .... when all is said and "finally opened", I think I really like the coverage of this product.

Seriosly though Cover Girl --- this product needs a major redesign if the main demographic can't open it to use it.

I FINALLY got this open but I swear I'm going to need rehab therapy on my hands now! What a PITA! And after all is said and done, I can't STAND this makeup! I'm an esthetician and take VERY good care of my skin but with this makeup on, every pore and line is accentuated and makes my skin look like crap! How is that possible?! Its heavy and feels chalky. 12 bucks totally wasted.

WOW! It's nice to see I'm not the only one having major problems opening this CoverGirl product! I've tried banging it on the counter, twisting both ways, pushing down while twisting, all to no avail. Back to the store it goes, I need physical therapy on my hands now!!

I could see the threads. SO, now that I have scratched the compact thoroughly and completely trying to break a seal that wasn't there... I FINALLY googled "how do I open..." and it was so simple. Putting the word "twist" on the package would have been helpful!!!
