CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless Foundation: Opening Instructions and Usage Tips.

I don't think I have ever received as many e-mails as I have before now, than with the questions I have been receiving about Simply Ageless, the new foundation from CoverGirl and Olay. I told you about this foundation innovation just before the Holidays and it seems as though many of you have purchased and have questions. The number one question I get is, "How do I open this?". So I went to CoverGirl and have the information for you right here.

I have discovered not only how to open the compact itself, but found some great tips on how to use this as well.

First, to open the product. There are two parts to the compact. The top part, which contains the actual foundation, and the bottom part that contains the sponge. The bottom simply flips open to obtain the sponge, and lets you keep it there when not in use. To open the top part, you need to twist the large clear lid off of the jar. It only takes one turn and it will open. The lid might be on tight, but it will definitely open with not too much effort. Remember, righty-tighty, lefty-loosey: Turn it to the left to open, to the right to close.

To apply the foundation, simply smooth the sponge across the compact to blend the products together and apply. The white color will never ever change the color of the foundation. It is just the special process by which the products were made to work in conjunction with each other. If you want to see it in action, check out this video with CoverGirl Makeup Artist Molly Stern, as she uses a wedge sponge to apply it to a model. To get a softer more sheer finish, dampen the sponge with water before applying.

I love the makeup and have had no trouble opening it. My problem is I now have tried 3 different colors and can't find the right one. I tried both ivories which made me look like a ghost. The best of the 3 is creamy nat. but it is abit darker than I prefer. I can see around my hairline the color contrast. Of couse, there is no way to really match my skin color as the product is sealed.
I have had this problem with counter makeup in department stores also.
I am fair and have blond hair and blue eyes, but my skin has a bit of redness to it.
when I googled I was not expecting to see all these post. I have been trying to open the compact for the last half hour. I was able to open after reading these post. Thanks ladies
Wow, I was stymied on how to open the darn thing so I had to come here for directions as well. I kept trying to flip it open. Cover Girl, you really did a good one......I hope this gets passed on to them.
I was relieved to see that others had trouble opening the container, I thought there was something wrong with me! I found putting on rubber gloves and opening for the first time worked really well.
I have been trying this product since it first came out but I still can't find the right shade. I have tried 3 or 4 but can't afford to keep trying and not using. Most of the shades 340, 350, 355 are all so pink. I used 360 in the summer which was close to my tanned face but now the others are too pink. I think I have a medium complexion but need something a little more beige. My neck looks beige next to my pink face. Any suggestions?
I just bought Simply Ageless at Walmart, got home and tried to open it, gave up and googled "Opening Simply Ageless". Your very helpful site came up, and I twisted very hard and it opened. Thank you, thank you.
Why would any product have to be this hard to open . This is absolutely ridiculous.

Had trouble figuring out how to open it, saw no instructions. And I have my B.A. in art.
One thing I realized to do is to go ahead and take out that circular, white piece of cardboard. The sponge stays much fresher with that piece of cardboard out. If I were selling this product, it would have instructions on the product and in the commercial and include a replacement sponge. But it seems like a good finish to the face, so OK.
At first i thought i was crazy for getting on line and keying in the words how to open simply ageless foundation, but as soon as i hit enter here i was, seeing that i was not the only one that had the same question. It took me hitting on the counter several times before it opened. CG should messed up on this design, they really, really need to rethink it. I was just about to bang the dang thing up and return it, Cover Girl think about us older women who don't have the strength in our hands that we use to on your products PLEASE!!
Someone with arthritis would never get this product open. I could see the threads, but it just would not budge. Had to have my dear hubby open it for me. Covergirl needs to re-think this one.
It's amazing what you can find online. I Googled "How to open covergirl & olay compact" and here I am! I had to bang it on the desk to open it up, too. SHEESH! I am also in agreement with the comment that it's difficult to match skin tones when the cosmetics are sealed. I guess the only answer is to try to find a display where you can try them or going to the more expensive stuff in department stores where there is a cosmetician on hand.
This product was made for older women. Older women start having strength issues and arthritis in their hands as they age. I have not been able to open up this makeup so I'm taking it back and not buying it again. Terrible packaging design.
Thanks to Theresa for suggesting to bang it on a table a few times. I was using those jar opener grippers and trying for half an hour to get the darn thing open - but banging it a couple of times worked like magic. It opened like magic LOL. Now as soon as my fingers uncramp from all the twisting I'll be able to try it! That is THE WORST packaging ever - I hope the product is worth it!
I am not young and have had corpal tunnel surgery on both wrists which has caused me to lose a lot of strength. I live alone. Just purchased this product and am so disappointed because I cannot open the makeup part. Guess I have to wait til one of my kids come to visit from out of town. Bad Bad job, Covergirl. It may look pretty on the shelf, but us women would like it to look pretty on us.
OH, and banging it on table didn't work for me
They're going to lose a TON of money if they don't fix this, which simply means they'll have to compensate for the loss somewhere by passing it on to you-know-who. Thanks to the banging tips I finally got it open, without damaging my table or my nails! A ridge across the top or on opposite sides of the cover for grasping with thumb and index finger would be perfect!
Oh, I didn't only bank. I pushed down with my palm and tried turning on a non-slip surface first, which probaly separated the threads somewhat. THEN I banged.
Are you kidding me???? I have to wait for my husband to get home to open this thing! I wonder what Ellen D'Gererous would think about endorsing a product that gives consumers so much trouble - FIX IT COVER GIRL!!
Thank goodness it is not just me!!
I gave up because I dropped it one time and was afraid I would break it and could not return it. Was really upset at not being able to open after I had purchased it to use on a special trip. Just occurred to me to night to Google Cover Girl Olay Open..and bingo help was there!!
I think Cover Girl needs to issue an apology about this one. I was wondering if I was on candid camera I had gotten so frustrated.
i broke 4 nails paid 15.99 for this pice of crap it took me 5 hrs to open it not only me for 3 of my freinds as well this thing is stupid, i had to ask my bf to open it he couldnt do it its air seald till i throw it across the room into the wall the i tryied it work thank youu lets hope it work for all the strength i put in it .... cover girl messed up on this one bad i can imagin how many people took it back
Wow-can't believe I had to come on line to figure out how to open the darn thing. Had to bang it pretty hard before it would loosen up.
Wow, I can't believe so many people couldn't open this stupid thing. I was struggling with it for quite awhile, gave up and googled. Why are there no instructions? I couldn't even be sure the top DID screw off. It seems like a bad practical joke!
I felt really stupid especially since I never used to wear make up at all but since I am getting older I thought I would begin BUT I couldn't open the container. I brought it to my husband, he couldn't get it open either. We were both sure it twisted open as you could see the the groves. I finally decided to google CG and couldn't believe that third from the top an actual link titled, how to open. Truly amazing that this wasn't tested before being put on the shelf. WoW! I did get it open, FINALLY!
You have got to be kidding me - banging makeup like a stubborn pickle jar????? At that price????? Did work - but very frustrating - shouldn't have to go to the web to open make up - sorry Ellen - totally bad call.
same here, had a heck of time attempting to open this, so finally had my husband do it. took him quite a few times, but when i look at it now i am wondering if perhaps you twist the bottom part (where the sponge is located) and push in at the same time. no idea how he got it open but it is and now i can use it! : )
