L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Superstar Mascara.

I'm always looking for the best mascara so when my sister picked up the L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Superstar Mascara on our recent CVS shopping trip I knew I had to try it for myself. You see, Cindi immediately put on this mascara following our drugstore haul and her lashes were transformed. I had to put this primer and mascara to the test for myself.

L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Superstar Mascara.

L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Superstar Mascara is just that: a primer and mascara in one package.

On one end of the tube there is a mascara primer and this is no ordinary primer. This mascara primer is a super-volumizing base that helps to build dramatic volume instantly onto each lash. It's lightweight so it doesn't weight down the lash. It simply creates volume as it lays down a smooth and even base to maximize the effects of the mascara. It's white so you can see exactly where you apply it.

On the other end is the mascara. This mascara is fiber-infused and it adheres right onto the primer/lashes. It applies easily with the curved brush. It seems to lift my lashes and add a ton of volume to them along with dramatic length. Because of the primer, I only need to apply two coats of mascara.

Before applying the mascara, I let the primer dry for about a minute. I'm not sure if this is recommended, but after trying to apply when the primer was too wet, I didn't feel like my results were as good.

I did not experience any clumping or flaking with Voluminous Superstar Mascara but I did have a little bit of smudging with the regular mascara toward the end of the day. I wasn't sure if this was due to my concealer and the mascara not playing nice so I picked up the waterproof version and I didn't experience any issue of smudging. I really love the length and volume I get so the L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Superstar Mascara Waterproof it is for me.

L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Lacque & Le Matte.

I have a problem. I am a lip product junkie. I don't think I can leave a store, whether it be a drugstore, mass retailer (Target, Walmart, etc.) or department store without picking up a new lippie. I even leave the Dollar Store with a new lip balm every time I head in there too. I just cannot resist a beautiful lipcolor. It literally changes the way a woman looks and feels about herself. When I saw the new L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Lacque & Le Matte I knew I would be looking for more of these beauties at the drugstore because they are very unique. In a lip pen form in both matte and glow formulas, these highly pigmented shades are irresistible.

L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Lacque & Le Matte

Before I get into each of the new L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche formulas, I just need to say how easy these sleek lip pens are to use. The pens are portable and twist up with a sharpened tip. But they don't apply like a "pencil", they are more pen-like as these are creamy and easy to apply. That's because the formulas are infused with Argan Oil and Safflower Seed Oil for a soft and smoothing appearance delivering deep hydration. In addition to that, nourishing oils, La Laque and La Matte also contains a blend of Vitamin E and antioxidants so lips are healing while wearing. That is always a good thing. And color payoff is incredible with both formulas - long wearing too.

L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Lacque

La Lacque is a super smooth high-gloss finish lip color. Like I said, it applies easily and is super unexpected right out of the pen applicator. I get six plus hours of wear of high shine color. There are five shades of La Lacque.

  • Choco-Lacque
  • Lacque-y You
  • Lacque-y Charm
  • Lacquerized
  • Lacque and Roll

L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Le Matte

Le Matte is somewhat more pigmented with a comfortable, creamy feel. This is full on color with a matte finish, but not dry, matte. The colors are beautiful and it's very long-wearing. The full on color lasts about 6 hours with some fading but there is some color left behind that lasts most of the day. There are also five shades of Le Matte.

  • Matte-r of Fact
  • She’s So Matte
  • Matte for Me
  • Game, Set & Matte
  • Mad for Matte

L'Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Illuminators: The Original Glow + The Best Highlighters for Mature Skin Now

UPDATED FOR 2026

I originally wrote this post about L'Oréal True Match Lumi Illuminators back in 2015, and somehow, more than a decade later, people are still finding it.

So instead of simply letting an old beauty review sit here featuring products that have long since left store shelves, I thought it was time for an update.

And this one is especially fun for me.

I've been writing about beauty for more than 25 years, and my makeup has definitely changed as I've gotten older. At 59, I'm still all about beautiful, glowing skin, but I'm much more selective about how I create that glow.

The goal now isn't glittery or overly shimmery skin. I want fresh, healthy-looking luminosity that doesn't emphasize texture, pores or fine lines.

Fortunately, L'Oréal's Lumi story didn't disappear. It evolved.

Remember the Original L'Oréal True Match Lumi Illuminators?

L'Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Illuminators.

When I originally reviewed these in 2015, L'Oréal offered True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminators in shades like Ice, Rose and Golden.

At the time, I loved the versatility. You could wear them underneath foundation, mix a little into foundation or use them strategically as a highlighter.

L'Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Illuminators.

The products pictured in my original post are no longer part of L'Oréal's current Lumi lineup, but the concept behind them is very much alive.

And I actually think today's version is better suited to the way I want my skin to look now.

Meet Today's L'Oréal Lumi Glotion. The modern version to know is L'Oréal True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Enhancer.

Think of Glotion as less of a traditional highlighter and more of an all-over glow enhancer.

L'Oréal describes it as a lightweight, luminous tinted moisturizer that can be worn alone, underneath makeup, mixed with foundation or applied to specific areas as a highlighter. The formula contains glycerin and shea butter for hydration, and the current range comes in Fair, Light, Medium, Deep and Rich.

How I'd Wear Lumi Glotion Over 50

There are a few ways I'd use it. Mix a small amount into foundation when your complexion is looking dull. Apply it underneath foundation for a subtle glow that comes through your makeup. Or tap just a tiny amount onto the upper cheekbones after foundation.

What About a More Traditional Highlighter?

L'Oréal now makes Lumi Le Glass Highlighter Stick, which is closer to what most of us think of as a traditional targeted highlighter. The brand currently lists it alongside Glotion in its highlighter collection.

I'd use a product like this sparingly on the highest point of the cheekbones rather than sweeping it over a large area.

That distinction becomes increasingly important as skin matures: radiance can be incredibly flattering; obvious shimmer isn't always as forgiving.

Other Glow Products I Like for Mature Skin

If you're willing to move beyond the drugstore, there are several products that give you that same modern, skin-like luminosity.

Saie Glowy Super Gel is a beautiful option when you want something very lightweight. It's a liquid illuminator designed to create hydrated-looking radiance and can be worn as part of your complexion routine rather than as an obvious streak of highlighter.

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter is another longtime favorite in this category. It's really a hybrid, part complexion booster, part primer and part highlighter. I especially like this type of product because you control exactly how much glow you want.

For a much less expensive alternative, e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter gives you that same general concept: a liquid complexion enhancer that can be worn alone or incorporated into your makeup for soft-focus radiance.

And if you still love an actual powder highlighter, Charlotte Tilbury Glow Glide Face Architect Highlighter is worth a look. With mature skin, I'd apply it with a small brush and a very light hand rather than sweeping it across the entire cheek.

My Highlighter Philosophy at 59

This is probably the biggest change between the woman who originally wrote this post in 2015 and the woman updating it today.

I don't want my highlighter to look like highlighter anymore.

I want someone to think my skin looks good.

That means I gravitate toward creamy, liquid and hydrating formulas and use them strategically. I want luminosity on the cheekbones, maybe a touch around the temples and sometimes a little on the collarbones.

What I generally don't want is chunky sparkle sitting on top of texture.

And that is why I think products like Lumi Glotion make so much sense for women over 50.

L'Oréal may have changed the product since I first wrote this post, but I'm still chasing the same thing:

Beautiful, healthy-looking skin that catches the light just right.

And apparently, after all these years, I'm still a Lumi girl.
