Bring on Summer with Sublime Bronze ProPerfect Airbrush Self-Tanning Mist.

I feel like I have been holed up in the house for the last week or so. I did make it into the pool once or twice, but honestly it has been either too hot or too gloomy and cool. So I thought I would kick up Summer a bit and get back into my faux-tan routine, which has gone to pot the last few weeks.

I have been meaning to write about my favorite self-tanners, and I promise I will get to it and spill the good, the bad, and the ugly. Quickly though, I can tell you that there is one type of self-tanner that I use on my arms and hands, and that is an airbrush self-tanner. You know, the ones that spray - an aerosol spray - out of a can. Using an airbrush tanner makes my arms and hands look the most natural to me. The spray can be controlled to only get your arms faux-tanned where the sun would tan them, and I never have to worry about stained palms. While I have not had much luck using an airbrush tan anywhere else on my body, I always - always - have a can, or two, on hand.

So, when I was asked by Total Beauty to review a new airbrush self-tanner, I was more than excited. This is the L'Oreal Sublime Bronze ProPerfect Airbrush Self-Tanning Mist

The Self-Tanning Mist itself, is great, and it covers pretty easily. I am used to applying aerosol spray tanners, so having no color guide is easy for me to use. And I actually prefer this type as there is no messy over-spray stain to clean up after. The mist sprays out lightly, but just enough to cover evenly without leaving droplet marks or anything. So, it is basically, spray and go. Well, spray, wait ten minutes or so, then go. The mist does take a few minutes to dry, but I like to wait at least ten minutes before dressing, so as to not mess up the application or my clothing.

The tell-tale self-tanner smell is pretty apparent right upon applying the Sublime Bronze, but it dissipates fairly quickly. By the time the mist dry, the DHA smell is basically gone, and I am left with just a nice, light scent. In about three or four hours, I noticed some newly bronzed hands, and I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at my arms. They looked nice and golden on me and natural. Really natural. Not orange or streaky - pretty perfect with just one application. Medium Natural Tan it is for me. I did use this two days in a row and it has been a few days and my glow is still on. I will probably re-apply tomorrow and keep it up by using this just once or twice a week.

A few tips when using an airbrush self-tanner: Make sure your parts are exfoliated, not freshly shaven and well moisturized. As I mostly apply my self-tanners at night, my normal morning moisturization is enough, except for on my hands. I apply a hand cream right before I use a self-tanning mist as to make sure the mist and color does not settle too much into the cracks and crevices on my knuckles and fingers. If you are self-tanning any other parts of your body first, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly to get off anything that might leave your palms stained, then move onto spraying your arms and hands.

Sublime Bronze ProPerfect Airbrush Self-Tanning Mist can be found at drugstores and mass merchandiser's nationwide for around $10.

Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Bar - if You Dare to Go Bare!

It is that time of year to be baring all - especially in this 100 degree heat that came out of no where this weekend.

If you are a bit afraid to bare it all because you have a bit of back acne or bumpy arms, have no fear. Clinique's new Acne Solutions Cleansing Bar will have your skin in tip top shape to bare, well, as much as you dare.

clinique_cleansing_bar.jpg

Both my 16 year old son and (almost) 13 year old daughter are at that age where those pesky pimples are popping up on their shoulders and the top of their back. My daughter refers to it as bacne - a new term for me. Justin has not been as faithful in using the bar (though he love the Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam), but when he did, I noticed that the bumps were barely visible. Caci has been using it everyday in the shower and  her results are even better. She is not afraid to bare her shoulders as she was earlier in the season, and confidence is everything, especially at her age.

This bar is lasting a long time too. After using, simply put it back in the case so the showers water does not "melt" the soap faster than it should.

No matter what your age, body acne is not fun. Try this out and let me know your results.

Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Bar is available for $12.50 at your local Clinique counter or online at Clinique.com. Check out the rest of the Acne Solutions line while you are there.

Philosophy's Purity Now in Foam!

I open an e-mail yesterday to learn that my favorite cleanser, Philosophy's Purity Made Simple is now available in a new foam form. I love Purity the way that it is, but if it improved on anything this just might be it: a foam to put on your face for that extra squeaky clean feel.

I do have to think though, that one of the reasons I love Purity is because it is so gentle, and the fact that you need so little, and that the little bit of liquid does all it needs to do - remove every bit of my makeup and dirt from my face, while keeping my skin soft and smooth.

I would think that this could be accomplished by adding more water to the product and adding in the pump. But looking at the image, it is clear. Hmmm.... is this the same formula?

"Philosophy Purity Made Simple Foaming Cleanser is a daily face wash that eliminates the toughest makeup, dirt, oil, and debris as it calms, soothes, and refines the skin. This one-step cleanser allows you to skip astringent, leaving skin feeling perfectly purified, comfortably balanced, and refreshingly clean without feeling tight afterwards."

I love my Purity as is, but I do have to try this, you know. Just because. Or at least for research reasons. ;)

If you have tried this yet, let me know what you think.  I will be picking it up this weekend, and will report back after I use it at least a few times.

Purity Made Simple High Foaming Daily Cleanser is available at Sephora only, with two sizes available. There is a 6 oz. size for $21.50 and a larger 12 oz. size for $34.50.
