Makeup for Busy Mom's.

I remember when my kids were very young. When my fourth child was born, I also had a two year old, a four year old and a seven year old. I was one busy Mom! I rarely wore makeup. When I did leave the house, I had like 20 minutes to shower and get ready and about three minutes of that was spent on my makeup. I had to streamline my entire makeup process. I could have definitely used this advice that celebrity makeup artist Sage Maitri shared with me.

Sage works with some of the busiest celebrity Mom's such as Molly Sims, Rebecca Romijn, Jessica Capshaw, Minnie Driver, Elizabeth Banks and Emily Deschanel. She knows her makeup, and has some great mom-friendly makeup tips that features some of my favorite COVERGIRL products. These multi-tasking and double-duty products are so smart.

10 DIY Beauty Tips.

I just realized that there are a few little things that I do over and over in my beauty routine that are sort of "unconventional". I rather consider them to be creative or DIY. I thought I should finally write all of these DIY beauty tips out, so you can benefit from my methods.

My top 10 creative beauty tips:

Powder Your Roots with Translucent Loose Powder
If your hairline starts to look greasy, dig up a big fluffy makeup brush and dip it into a pot of translucent loose powder and brush it into your hair. The powder will instantly absorb all hair oil. Bonus - translucent powder matches all hair colors.

Shave with Conditioner Instead of Shaving Cream
Run out of shaving cream? Do double duty by coating your stems with a thick hair conditioner. It softens the hair so it’s easier to shave off and it makes legs feel amazingly silky.

Make an Egg White Face Mask
To revive tired and dull skin without hitting the spa, try this: Crack open an egg in a bowl, separate the yolk, and use the egg whites to make a face mask. The proteins help to heal and restore skin’s moisture. Leave it on for five minutes, rinse off and follow with toner and moisturizer.

Heat Up Your Eyelash Curler
If you have stick-straight lashes, try blasting your metal eyelash curler with a hair dryer for a couple seconds to heat it up so your lashes bend more easily. Be careful though, as the metal does heat up quick. When I say a few seconds, I mean it.

Spike Lotion with Bronzer
If you don’t have time for a self-tanning session, mix a few pumps of liquid bronzer with regular body lotion and rub it on your legs for a subtle dose of sexy, beachy color.

Soften Your Body with Avocado
Avocado is a natural moisturizer, so use it to your benefit. Take a ripe avocado, remove the pit and skin, and mash it up in a bowl. Slather the avocado all over your body, let it sit for 20 minutes, then rinse off and follow with your regular body lotion.

Amp Up Shine with Vinegar
Mix one part vinegar with four parts carbonated water, and pour the mixture over dry hair. Leave it on for 15 minutes then rinse out. Follow with shampoo to lock in shine and combat dullness.

Press a Tea Bag on Splotches
If you’re sensitive or just looking irritated or puffy for some reason, steep a bag of green tea for a minute or two, let it cool down and dab it over your face. The antioxidants in the tea take down inflammation. When my eyes are extra puffy, I wrap the hot tea bags in paper towels and let them sit on my closed eyes for 5 - 10 minutes.

Use Eye Makeup Remover to Remove Lip Stains or Dark Lipstick
Don’t try to rub off that lip stain or stubborn red lipstick. Instead take a cotton ball or tissue and dip it in makeup remover, and just dab to erase the dark stain fast.

Use Toothpaste on a Zit
Take a pea-size amount of white toothpaste, and place it over zits or red areas. Let it sit for 15 minutes to absorb the oil so the pimple won’t get more clogged, then wash it off.

It is the new year and it is time to rethink your beauty routine. Here are some great beauty tips shared by top NYC dermatologist Dr. Sejal Shah.

Put these beauty tips to use NOW for a better you in 2013!

1. Wear sunscreen EVERYDAY.  For regular daily wear, a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15 is also adequate.

2. ALWAYS remove your makeup before going to bed.

3. Use gentle cleansers and don't rub vigorously when washing.  AVOID harsh products.

4. Use a GENTLE exfoliator once a week.

5. Use products with ANTIOXIDANTS for their protective and antiaging benefits.

6. ADD in a Hyaluronic Acid product to keep your skin hydrated and give it a more rejuvenated appearance.

7. If your skin tends to be SENSITIVE, look for products with anti-inflammatory ingredients, such as Green Tea Extract and Niacinamide.

8. Don't forget to PROTECT that delicate skin around your eyes! Use an eye cream with an SPF daily, wear sunglasses, and use a moisturizing eye cream at night (you can use an eye cream tailored for your specific need e.g. antiaging, dark circles, etc).

9. Make sure you get PLENTY of rest, eat a well-balanced diet, limit alcohol consumption, and quit smoking.
