As the seasons change, it is important to take stock of your beauty products.

Sure it is fun to buy a new lipstick, pick out new nail colors, and stock up on the latest eyeshadow palettes to keep up with seasonal trends, but I am talking skin care. Even a small change in the weather can effect our skin.

Is your skin usually oily and now it is more dry? Or is it even more dry and patchy this time of year? Perhaps you are breaking out in places that you only do this time of year or your t-zone is a mess. A lot of it has to do with the environment. That is why we need to open up our beauty drawers and makeup bags and look at the skin care products that we regularly use.

Just by switching out a few skin care products, it can make a big difference and make you fall in love with your skin again.

Here are some product recommendations that can be switched in and out seasonally that will make a difference in your skin.

Cleanser

Believe it or not, your cleanser plays an important role in your skincare routine. Did you ever look at what is in your cleanser? Does it contain drying agents like alcohol or a lot of hydrating ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid? It could be a culprit of your skin issues.

When it comes to cleansers, I like to keep it simple.

I’ve been a longtime fan of philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser because it is effective at cleansing and removing makeup in one. It does have toning and hydrating agents in it though, so if you are super oily, it may not be the best for you.

One cleanser that seems to work well for everyone is Cetaphil, and I like the newer Gentle Foaming Cleanser version of this longtime cult fave. Great for all skin types, this simply gently cleanses without leaving skin dry or tight.

Scrubs/Exfoliants

If you’ve noticed that your pores are larger in size, your t-zone more oily or simply that your skin is out of balance, adding in an exfoliant or daily scrub will do wonders for your skin.

I recommend trying bliss Pore Patrol Daily Warming Scrub. This scrub is made with black volcanic sand and it is addictive. It feels amazing as it warms up on the skin, but what it does to shrink pores and get rid of oil is even more addictive.

Another product from Cetaphil is the Extra Gentle Daily Scrub. I knew I could trust this scrub from the get-go. It is made with micro-fine particles to gently exfoliate the skin whether you are oily or dry. It gets rid of extra dirt, dull dry flakes or oil; it encourages natural cell turnover and more radiant skin is revealed.

Another recommendation, and really great for those looking to get rid of dull skin, dry skin or fine lines is Freeze 24-7 Skin Smoothie. Skin Smoothie is actually a treatment that comes in the form of glycolic acid, and this one is a potent 10%. I love how easy these are to use. The glycolic acid is embedded into retexturizing pads that you swipe onto the skin. It’s a very effective that only needs to be used once or twice a week.

Another pad that I recently tried and have found to be really effective is from a new brand called Naturally Serious. The Cold-Pressed Peel Pads are a gentle peel pad that can be used twice a day to help resurface the skin. These are more of a gentle toning pad and are great for both oily and dry skin alike.

Serum

Adding in, taking out or changing up your serum as the seasons change is something to definitely consider. Your serum plays such a pivotal role (longterm) in your skincare routine and you need to pay close attention to how it is working or not working for you.

If your skin has started to look dull as the seasons change, add a Vitamin C serum into your regimen. I recommend trying Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum, Ole Henricksen Truth Serum or Perricone MD Vitamin C Ester Brightening Serum. All of these serums are made with stable Vitamin C that will help greatly brighten the skin after just a few uses. I use a Vitamin C serum in addition to others.

If you skin is feeling tight or dry, especially after the long summer, you might want to add in a serum that will boost hydration. I like Naturally Serious Supercharge Anti-Oxidant Moisture Serum, Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum or SkinCeuticals Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier.

Masks

Oooh I love me a face mask and I use one or two (different masks) each week.

A face mask can do so many great things for your skin. Whether you find you skin more oily this time of year, more dry or dull, there are a plethora of face masks that can aid in getting your skin looking better in 15-20 minutes.

As I said, I use different masks each week. I use them according to how my skin is looking, feeling or reacting to things like the weather or environment.

I have a few favorite masks that have been longtime skin saviors that I keep in my makeup drawer and rotate them in and out regularly. Masks like Fresh Rose Face Mask, Boscia Black Charcoal Mask and Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay are all masks that I have grown dependent on when my skin is out of balance.

Then there are newer face masks like Origins Hello, Calm which is great for stressed skin; Elemis Peptide Thousand Flower Mask that is great for revitalizing dull skin; or Wander Beauty’s Extended Stay Hydrating Mask that is VERY intensely hydrating.

All in all, sub in a new product or two when the seasons change and get your skin back to its best, beautiful self!
