Getting Healthy with Nutrisystem: Week 10.

I had a set back and gained weight last week, so I worked extra hard this week to lose those pounds and be totally back on track. Did I have success? Well, you have to read to the end of the post to find that out, because right now I want to talk about what I get asked the most about with Nutrisystem; the food. Everyone who says I look great and hears that I am on Nutrisystem wants to know about the food. Many of you have messaged, emailed and commented, so I figure it is about time to talk about the food.

I should start out by saying that I am a very picky eater normally. I do not eat things like fish or cheese (except on pizza). When I like something, I eat it a lot. This has been the case with Nutrisystem. I have definitely found my favorites.

Favorite Nutrisystem Foods

My favorite meals are probably the breakfast foods. It is how I am satisfying my sweet tooth. I really like the muffins, especially the Double Chocolate and Cinnamon Streusel Muffin! Yum! When I am on the go, I eat a Cinnamon Bun Bar. It is so good. I also really like the pancakes that I make from the Pancake Mix, the frozen French Toast and frozen Waffles. I use a store brand sugar-free syrup and am delighted every time.

For lunch, I usually eat a salad and a Nutrisystem lunch bar or one of the Nutrisystem soups. The lunch bars that I really like are the Double Chocolate Caramel Bar and the Fudge Graham Bar. Can you even imagine? It's like dessert at lunch! For soups, I like to eat the Chicken Noodle Soup, Homestyle Chicken Soup and White Bean Chicken Chili. I also pair these with a salad and really get full and satisfied.

For dinners, there is such a big selection. One of my favorites is the Flame Broiled Beef Patty. I love being able to eat it with a lite, fiber rich bun and load on the onions and peppers. I pair it with a salad, and other steamed veggies, and sometimes can't even finish the meal. I like the pizzas too. They come with the crust and you add the ingredients, so I can control the cheese. I cheat and use my own homemade pizza sauce, which is basically spiced up tomato sauce that I make on my own. It is very low in calorie and really good. I had to get used to the small size, but I customize it and again, load on the veggies. I like quite a few of the frozen dinners. My favorites include the Ginger Cashew Chicken, Turkey Medallions and Salisbury Steak.

I love the protein shakes and have a chocolate or vanilla shake every morning. I have learned to customize those with sugar free syrups and drink mixes. I use a blender, though you don't have to because Nutrisystem gives you a little shaker that really thickens up the mix, but I like a full on thick shake, so the blender it is. I love using a sugar free orange drink mix with the vanilla shake mix to make an Orange Julius-like drink. It is so frothy good! And cherry and raspberry sugar free syrups are so good in the chocolate milkshake mix.

The desserts are all so good too. I don't think I have tried one that I haven't liked. I really like the frozen treats including the Chocolate Brownie Sundae, the Creamy Fudge Bar and Orange Creme Bar. I really like the cookies too. I even get to snack on a bag of buttered popcorn when I have a craving and it really hits the spot.

So, how did I do staying on track this week? I am so excited to share that I lost 4 pounds this week, bringing my total to 16 pounds lost. I am happy that I am back on track, lost those 3 pounds I gained, and plan to stay on my Nutrisystem journey to meet my weight loss goals.

Getting Healthy with Nutrisystem: Week 9.

A funny thing happened on the way to the farm this week. I ran out of my Nutrisystem food. There was a little snafu with my order, and though all is well and I am totally back on my plan now, I definitely struggled a bit.

I honestly didn't think I was struggling though. I did what I always do when a problem arises; I came up with a solution. I thought about how I would transition off of Nurtisystem and that is what I did. I stuck to my eating schedule and substituted regular food from the grocery store. Well, food that I thought was comparable. I choose lower calorie, lower sugar, high protein and high fiber food. I ate at the same times that I normally eat my Nurtisystem food. I managed. Though I really have to admit that I missed the food, especially my favorite protein packed Fudge Graham Bars.

What I didn't manage to do was lose any weight. I guess it goes to show how powerful and how well Nutrisystem really works. In just five days of being off of Nutrisystem and eating similar foods, I gained 3 pounds, bringing my weight loss down to just 12 pounds. It was not what I was expecting.

I am going to stick to Nutrisystem 100% and work out extra hard to lose that weight. I will back on track and will still try to reach my goals!

Getting Healthy with Nutrisystem: Week 8.

Now that I am half way through my 16 week Nutrisystem program, I figure it is time to set some goals.

Initially, I wanted to lose about 30 pounds. that was approximate, because I didn't really know what I wanted to or should weigh it was really about 33 or 34 pounds. I can't remember the exact number at this point; I had a goal weight in mind. That was until I was at the doctor a few weeks into the program.

Up until this point, my doctor never told me that I needed to lose a certain amount of weight, but we talked about it at length during this visit. He thought I was smart about getting on track with my health and that losing weight was a part of that. He actually suggested I lose a little more than I wanted to. He told me that in his experience, patients would gain about 5 pounds when they transition off of a plan like Nutrisystem.

I kept that in mind and am trying to gauge what size I want to be when I am not just finished with Nutrisystem, but when I am at my healthy weight goal. I have decided that in total, I want to lose 40 pounds. I feel this is do-able and that I will hopefully be at a size that I want to be, and at a healthy weight, with my BMI at a good point.

My initial goal was to lose 10 pounds in my first month. I reached that goal. I want to make it a goal to lose 5 pounds a month from here on out, because that's about what I lost in the last month. I have realized that I lose weight slowly, but I think I can keep it off this way. I lost another 1.5 pounds this week, which makes my 8 week total of 15 pounds lost. With this in mind, I have a goal to lose 25 pounds when my 16 weeks with Nutrisystem is over. It is not as much as I had initially planned, but I feel I will be on track and on my way.  When my Nutrisytem 16 week plan is actually over, I will reassess and set more goals and a plan to lose that last 15 pounds on my own.
