Crazy Things Can and Do Happen - Even in the Cosmetics World!

A few things I either saw or heard this week that has left me scratching my head...

First, Amy Winehouse is creating a Cosmetics line. Could this be true? It was reported in The Sun and I just DO NOT want to believe it. Let me just say that if it were the last cosmetic line on this plant, I would not even consider using it. Seriously - who would use this gal as a cosmetic example any way?

Secondly, what the hell is this look from Dior? Forgive my snark on this. I honestly think that my mouth would have dropped if I was at this show. And I would probably be holding back the laughter. Avant-garde or not, the makeup was horrid.

Anastasia Brow Shop at Sephora.

My daughter made a surprise (surprise to me) visit to the Anastasia Brow Shop in Sephora last week.

Long story short, she had earlier been to Bendel's where a makeup artist showed Caci how to even her skin tone with a bit of tinted moisturizer, how to accent her eyes with some clear mascara and use a bit of a natural pearly lip gloss on her lips. Perfect for a 13 year old, though I think it should wait longer than that - but who am I kidding. Anyway, all of the talk was about her eyebrows and how she really needed them professionally shaped. The makeup artists' that she was working with suggested the Brow Shop at the Sephora Times Square. So off my sister and Caci went.

When my sister saw that it was the Anastasia Brow Shop she was even more excited, as I think she sneaks most of my Anastasia products from me.

They took great care of Caci and did a down right beautiful job on her brows. She had parts of her brows waxed, tweezed, trimmed, and thinned out with a razor. You cannot imagine the difference it made to her. Not only her look, but her self-esteem as well.

They spent just over 30 minutes with Caci, as there was a lot of work to do and they took extra care to be gentle and not hurt her at all. They had agreed that the charge would be $32 for the session, but seeing Caci weep as she looked in the mirror, the tech called in others to see the difference it made.  They were all in agreement that they could not take a dime from them. No tip, no charge, no nothing. How is that for New York? Unheard of. I wish I could thank them myself! (I will be sending in a note)

We will be getting her touch-ups whenever they are warranted, but obviously it will not be back in NYC, though Caci doesn't understand why I would not bring her to the city a few times a month just for it. Trust me, if I were closer than the two hours away that I am, I would take her in a second.

The Anastasia Brow Shop is only in the Sephora stores in Times Square and Fifth Avenue. It is a must stop if you are in either store in New York City.

The Biggest and Best Beauty Counter!

Thanks to Total Beauty.com, while attending the CEW Product Demonstration, I was honored to be a member of the "VIP" press, which allowed me access to the demonstration one hour earlier then the rest of the "general" voters. This was amazing! Imagine, two HUGE banquet rooms with the longest beauty counters available. 600+ products, each with it's own little space and product demonstrator. I was in heaven to be able to just walk and look around the room before it was too crowded to get to the products themselves.

The evening was crazy. I was almost immediately overwhelmed by the perfumes, and about twenty minutes into it, I realized that there was no part of my hand or wrist available for more testing or swatching or spraying.

I spent most of my time over in the makeup section and am excited about a few new products I got to see and hear about for the first time.

I ran into Kristen from Beauty Addict (What a dear - I was thrilled to finally get to spend some time chatting with her after only meeting her briefly a few times now) and Kristen Nelson Thibeault, VP of Business Development for Total Beauty right away. I think that they were both excited and a bit overwhelmed as well. We met up at dinner and drinks afterward, which Emrah Kovacoglu, CEO of Total Beauty, treated us to. Thank you Emrah! It was amazing to meet the brains behind Total Beauty. At dinner, I was also happy to catch up with Julia from All About the Pretty and Elke from The Beauty Blog Network and met some new beauty bloggers too.

Stay tuned for posts highlighting many of the products I discovered and got to try at the event.
