Dimitri James’ Metallic Smokey Eye.

Sometimes it's not so easy creating the smoky eye.  I know it takes patience and practice, practice, practice, especially when going for a certain look.  One such smoky look that is definitely on trend this year is the metallic smokey eye.  Dimitri James' of Skinn Cosmetics has created a how-to video on how to create this gorgeous look.

The product Dimitri used for this look is the Patina Eyeshadow Palette in The Irresistibles($22.50).

The palette contains 6 gleaming shades that glide on smoothly and last the day with no touching up.  The shadows are not as pigmented as they look, so if you want drama, you are going to need to layer on the shadow a bit, but it is worth it.  The metallic smokey eye can be achieve

Stila In the Light Palette.

I bought this beautiful palette, Stila In the Light Palette ($39), late in the summer, and I don't think there has been a day since where I haven't used at least one of the shades. In fact, all of the shades in this eye shadow palette are very natural and wearable, with even subtle smoky eyes a cinch, especially with the enclosed instructional look booklet.

This beauty contains 10 natural shades and a limited-edition Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner. The shades:

  • Bare (matte ivory)
  • Kitten (shimmering nude pink)
  • Bliss (matte nude)
  • Sunset (copper shimmer)
  • Sandstone (matte neutral brown)
  • Champagne (pale gold shimmer)
  • Gilded Gold (bronze with gold shimmer)
  • Luster (deep gray with gold shimmer)
  • Night Sky (slate blue with silver shimmer)
  • Ebony (matte black)

I have already hit pan with Kitten, Bare and Luster. I have been using all three together, for a natural smoky and shimmery eye - perfect for day. I use Luster not only in my crease, but I also use it as an eyeliner. I dampen my favorite Bobbi Brown Eye Definer Brush, dip it in, apply, and get the most beautiful brown line. It looks more brown than gray, as it is described, especially wet. Another favorite combination is Kitten and Night Sky. They blend very well together for a gray/blue smoky look. I like using Night Sky with that look too.

Have you seen the MAC Holiday 2011 shadows yet? There are some beauties in there that I can't wait to try.

Be Cool with Clinique's NEW Lid Smoothie Eye Colour.

It has been a hot summer, hasn't it? While I normally don't look for makeup products that cool my skin, I was very intrigued by these new eye colours from Clinique which promised to do just that - cool your lids as you apply them. Meet Clinique's new Lid Smoothie Antioxidant 8-Hour Eye Colour.

You see, the magic happens within the applicator.  It is made of metal that when used to apply the eye colour, you get a very cooling sensation. It is really different feeling as it sort of wakes up the eyes as it is applied.  The skin care-infused formula helps to visibly rejuvenate the delicate eye area too!

The formula is so lightweight and the shades blend effortlessly across the lid leaving a soft, shimmery, powdery finish behind.  Lid Smoothie is great for layering and pairs beautifully with powder shadows too. Who would have thought? I wouldn't have until I knew I needed a base color and tried it myself.

Lid Smoothie Eye Colour comes in 12 energizing (chilling?) colours with shades ranging from nudes and goldens to violets, blues and berries:

  • Bit O’Honey
  • Cashew Later
  • Sassy-fras
  • Ginger-ly
  • Cute-cumber
  • Pinko Biloba
  • Seventh Heather
  • Born Freesia
  • Imprompt-blue
  • Currant Affair
  • Lick-orice
  • Salt and Pepper

Try out the Clinique Lid Smoothie Eye Colours at Clinique counters now. Of course you can shop at clinique.com too, but you will really want to experience this cooling sensation in person for yourself. Each Eye Colour retails for $19.50.
